Punta Gorda FL Map

Punta Gorda, Florida is a small waterfront community located at the mouth of the Peace River where it empties into Charlotte Harbor. Just north of Fort Myers and south of Sarasota, Punta Gorda is conveniently located near I-75, so trips to amusement parks in Tampa or Orlando are only a 1.5 to 2 hour drive away. Punta Gorda was named one of the top 20 best places to live in 1997 by Money Magazine. Comprised of a population of about 20,000, the median age of Punta Gorda residents is 64. Although the area was hit in 2004 by Hurricane Charley, most areas are coming back strong and rebuilding.

The name Punta Gorda means “broad point” or “fat point” and was said to have been named by Spanish explorers in the early 1500’s. Today, Punta Gorda retains its sense of history and small town charm, which can be seen everywhere from the fishing docks to the renovated downtown area which touts cobblestone streets, gaslights, and many fine restaurants and shops.

Punta Gorda has much to offer despite their small town reputation. Outdoors and adventure enthusiasts can check out the Peace River Wildlife Center, the Ponce de Leon Historical Park or the Florida Adventure Museum. Shopping enthusiasts will love Fisherman’s Village, a new waterfront shopping complex that offers exclusive boutiques, dining and evening entertainment. This posh center also offers a 98 slip marina as well as boat, Jet Ski and bicycle rentals. Fisherman’s Village also offers a resort club and vacation rentals.

Like so many other areas in beautiful Southwest Florida, Punta Gorda is a waterfront paradise. Canals run throughout the city, making it possible for you to find a home where you can dock your boat right in your back yard. Whether you are looking to relocate or just to find a single family home, condominium, townhouse or investment property, Punta Gorda may be just the place for you! Moderately priced condos, ready to build on land and lots and million dollar waterfront luxury homes await you in Punta Gorda. There are a number of fine gated communities and neighborhoods in Punta Gorda, many with their own golf course such as Seminole Lakes, or directly on the water such as Punta Gorda Isles.

Though Punta Gorda doesn’t have a beach of its own, most residents make a quick trip to visit nearby Englewood beach where they enjoy swimming, shelling sunning and more. However, you don’t have to leave Punta Gorda to enjoy the outdoors. Charlotte Harbor is a popular destination for boaters and fisherman, and leads to the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Here you can enjoy an array of water sports, search for tropical birds, dolphins and manatees, or just take in a sunset picnic. Punta Gorda residents also enjoy pleasant weather year round, making it possible to enjoy biking, jogging, golfing, gardening, and more virtually whenever you want.
